When Samsung launched the Galaxy S6, the company specifically promoted the addition of preloaded mobile apps from Microsoft as a quality that they stated differentiated the Galaxy S6 from the other Android smartphones.
However some American consumers who have bought the Galaxy S6 through their carriers state that many of these preloaded apps by Samsung are no longer there and it seems that the carriers have removed these apps. Particularly Verizon has been front runner in this removing of Microsoft apps from the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Now what we have found is that some carriers have removed some of the preloaded apps while others have removed all of them.
AT&T has removed the Download Booster feature which basically uses Wi-Fi and LTE data to deliver faster speeds, the Simple Sharing feature, Microsoft’s OneDrive application which has a 100GB free cloud storage and then the Smart Manager app.
Then on the list is Verizon which has removed all of the Microsoft pre-loaded apps and this means that consumers that buy from Verizon will not get OneDrive, Skype, OneNote and Office Mobile.
T-Mobile on the other hand has basically limited the ability of the consumers to remove S-Finder and Quick Connect from the phone’s drop down menu. Except for this the carrier has left everything in place.
Then finally there is Sprint that has like AT&T removed the Download Booster and has also disabled Wi-Fi calling as a default setting. Other than this everything is intact and consumers can enjoy the Microsoft apps.
In a statement from a spokesman of Verizon, he stated that all these deleted apps can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Verizon wasn’t blocking anyone from using them. However the consumers should know that once the Smart Manager has been removed from the Galaxy S6 it cannot be downloaded separately from the Google Play Store.
