A sad day for Samsung. It no longer features in the table that shows the top 5 smartphone brands in china. The entire smartphone world has been gossiping about Samsung vs apple but the scenario is entirely different in china. Huawei has risen as the reigning king of the smartphone segment.

Apple is doing well but with its first ever forecast decline for the next quarter, things aren’t looking good for the Cupertino based tech company. Samsung reigned supremacy in the not too distant past but local brands such as Lenovo, xaomi and Huawei have stealthy snatched away its market share.

“The smartphone industry is almost saturated. I have found that China’s smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2015 decreased 4 percent year-over-year,” said Lee Seung-woo, a securities analyst with IBK Securities. “The two sides of the story behind this grim outlook are smartphone saturation and an overall weak economy.”

“That means the biggest market for smartphones is saturated, and 2016 numbers will only decrease more. The first half of 2016 has a dismal outlook for the smartphone industry,” Lee said.

The overall mobile business of Samsung is rapidly declining and the Korean giant is struggling to maintain the profit growth. It more or less lost the china market to the local vendors and united states to apple, the only hope remains the African and Indian subcontinent where the feature phones still sell in astonishing numbers.

Even though Samsung sells most smartphones in India, apple and other Chinese manufacturers are preparing to dominate the market.

Apple is rumoured to introduce a new iPhone 5se in march this year. This iPhone will be slightly less powerful than the iPhone 6s but also less expensive. This is aimed as a mass market device that will help apple gain some ground in India.

With its fortunes declining, Samsung needs to do something radically different with its upcoming smartphones if it has to stay relevant in the mobile world.
