With the release of the new note 5 and the galaxy s6 edge+, Samsung also released a slew of compatible accessories like the phone case with physical buttons and the qi charge pad. I received the qi charger pad yesterday and have been testing out with the new note 5 and I must say that Samsung wasn’t bluffing when it said that the new qi charger juices up the note 5 30% faster.

But what was curious is that the qi charger pad was a bit bulky when compared to its previous generation charger or other wireless charger. Looking closing, I found that the charging pad contains within itself a fan that is used to sync the heat generated while the charging process takes place. The $70 qi charge pad was the crucial piece of tech from Samsung that allows the compatible phone to charge themselves wirelessly at a never before pace.

Wireless charging produces heat and since Samsung has upped the voltage to transfer the current more quickly to the battery, naturally the heat produced during the process will also be high. When the heat produced from the device combined with the heat from the charger (yes, even charger produced incredible amount of heat), the temperature of the device and the qi charger increase dangerously (imagine a cpu without a heat sync fan). This leads to the shutting down of the phone and malfunctioning of the charger. The important thing is that you won’t notice that there is a fan inside the charger coz the noise produced is minimal. The qi charger recharges your phone from 0% to 100% in about 120 minutes

To eliminate such incidents, Samsung has built the heat sync fan that not only cool down the charger but also your precious smartphone.
