Apple is known as a hard task master among the component supplier. It requires the components to be of highest possible quality and in large quantities. Apple is also known to have changed the component suppliers without any prior intimation. The latest rumour is that apple will ask Samsung to make the OLED displays for its next phone, the iPhone 7.
Apple has infamously said that the OLED display were far inferior to the iPhone’s LCD display 3 years ago. But today it has changed its stance. Apple’s view on the OLED display changed as the OLED technology has grown leaps and bounds. OLED tech is now used in the most vibrant and colourful displays in the smartphone world.
Apart from true to life colours, deeper contrast levels and greater viewing angles, the OLED displays are less power hungry than the LCD display in turn increasing the overall battery life of a smartphone. Another great ability of OLED display is to light up an individual pixel on the display whereas the LCD display required you to light up the whole back. With this ability, the next iPhone can display notification only in the top of the display and show the time without lighting up the entire display just sipping the power in the battery.
Apple as of now, contracts the JDI (japan display Inc.) to manufacture the LCD display for the iPhone and has also invested $1.4 billion in a new facility of JDI to manufacture the displays exclusively for the future iPhones. But it is unknown yet when the facility will be ready for production.
Samsung already provides display for the apple watch and if these rumours are to be true, the Korean company could be providing the A10 chip as well as the display for the iPhone 7. If everything goes as planned, your iphone’s display is set to become more beautiful.
