Samsung Electronics Company which is the world’s biggest seller of smartphones is now all set to carry out its biggest launches in India in the upcoming quarter. This decision by Samsung has been taken in order to fend off local and Chinese rivals in the mid segment category.

The South Korean giant is all set to introduce 10 new smartphones in the July-September quarter and these devices are said to be in the Rs9000 to Rs 18000 segment. This is because Samsung is in the middle of a fierce battle for market share with Lenovo-Motorola, Xiaomi and Micromax.

Moreover according to some research companies the rivalry led to a drop in Samsung’s market share in the high stakes mid segment in 2014. Apart from this over the past few quarters the South Korean giant has launched mostly variants of its older models such as the Galaxy Grand and the Galaxy Core in this segment which have been a flop in front of the competition.

This new strategy that Samsung has adopted is championed by the India President of Samsung, HyunChil Hong who had taken over in December. Smartphones account for 70 percent of the company’s revenue in India.

This will be Samsung’s largest rollout of unique models in India. A Samsung India spokesperson stated that he doesn’t comment on market speculation. Moreover he stated that Samsung is very committed to the Indian market and will definitely continue to cater the needs of consumers with new products and technology.

Most of these models are said to be unveiled under a sub-brand called the J series and the 4G compliant handsets will be made in India. Plus two handsets the Galaxy J7 and J5 are expected to be the first handsets to hit the market early next month. Samsung will also be launching its next flagship model the Galaxy Note 5 in India in September which is ahead of Apple traditional iPhone launch.

The mid segment accounts for 30 percent of smartphones sales by volume in India. Apart from this the Rs9000-18000 segment is the fastest growing segment and is expected to become the largest in the next two quarters.
