Even though Apple has sold 47.5 million iPhones in the last quarter the South Korean giant still took home a bigger slice of the smartphone market as per a new report released on Thursday.

During the second quarter of 2015 Samsung took a 21.7 percent of the global smartphone market with shipments of 73.2 million units.

Well these numbers are actually down from the same quarter in 2014 when Samsung had a market share of 24.8 percent.

Now Apple’s second quarter market share was just 14.1 percent with shipments totaling 47.5 million.

However Apple made progress as these figures were higher than last year’s second quarter when Apple’s market share was 11.7 percent.

Apple had also emerged as the leader in global market share in the last quarter 0f 2014 thanks to the strong sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

However Samsung took back its position in the next quarter and then Samsung introduced its new flagship smartphones the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, but the company had some problems in keeping up with the Galaxy S6 Edge’s supply.

Even though Apple is in second place, Apple did quite well in the last quarter, scoring its biggest fiscal third quarter ever with sales totaling 47.5 million.

Apple dominated in China with its new iPhones. On the other hand the Chinese vendors Huawei and Xiaomi took third and fourth place.

Huawei took 8.9 percent last quarter which is compared to 6.7 percent in the same quarter last year.

The company benefited a lot from strong sales of its mid-range and high end phones both in its home country and all across Europe.

Xiaomi also did quite well with both its premium and entry level phones. The company’s market share last quarter rose to 5.3 percent from 4.6 percent.

On the fifth position was Lenovo as the company continued to do well in India and other such emerging markets with its entry level and mid-range phones.

The company has also purchased Motorola which did quite well in USA and Europe. So overall the smartphone vendors shipped 337.2 million units last quarter which is an increase by 11.6 percent from the 302.1 million units shipped in 2014’s second quarter.
