Note 5 Has A Dual Sim Variant in India

androidpit-samsung-galaxy-note-5-15-w782India is a land where an average person has about 2 sim cards. I am from India and I am afraid that I have 5 phone numbers for various purposes. It is for this exact reason that Samsung has been introducing dual sim variant of its phones since the dawn of smartphone age and this year isn’t any different. It launches under the branding called as “duos”.

The excellent note 5 will soon have a dual sim variant that can handle 2 sim cards with 4g capabilities simultaneously.

The price is a bit on the high side. The 32 GB base model will have a price tag of INR 51,400 (around $760) and the 64 GB model will cost 57,400 (around $845). The falling rupee and the high import taxes are to be blamed for this price.

“In the high-end segment, we saw a very strong trend of people using dual-SIMs in our A series smartphone,” said Manu Sharma, director-product marketing at Samsung India. “Consumers want a premium device, which has a local SIM and space for another SIM.”

“We will continue doing products that will address an opportunity and we will drive the dual-SIM market in the premium segment, starting with the Note 5,” Sharma said.

There was also a mention about the dual sim variant of the galaxy s6 and the s6 edge. These will be coming out in the future. But I doubt it, Samsung is on the verge of introducing the galaxy s7 and I don’t think it would encourage people to buy the last generation phone while the next generation handset arrived.

Whatever might be Samsung strategy, having a phone that can handle 2 sim cards is a boon for some people although most don’t give a damn.

The phone launches tomorrow.
