Sometimes it is not possible to be there with friends or family on important occasions and such was the case for Jace Larke who had an unavoidable work commitment at the time of his baby’s due date. His job sent him 4000km away in the remote Queensland mining town of Chinchilla.

Even though the electrical engineering contractor could not be there with his wife in person he was still able to attend the birth of his third child, who was born in a Perth hospital by using virtual reality.

Well it’s obvious this couldn’t be done without some help and so a team from Samsung set up cameras, audio and streaming equipment in his wife Alison’s hospital room which was paired with a Samsung Gear VR headset in Chinchilla.

When Jace received the call he went to a special room that was set up by Samsung he was not only able to just view the room in real-time but interact with Alison as well.

Alison stated that she was very happy that she and Jace were given this opportunity by Samsung. She stated that even though Jace was so far away he was able to experience the birth as if he was in the room with her. She explained that this project by Samsung has been absolutely amazing and has changed the couple’s lives forever.

According to Samsung this project and experience was a proof to the world that virtual reality is not just a toy but this technology is enabled to share important moments from across great distances.

The chief marketing officer of Samsung, Arno Lenior stated that as one of the leaders in technology innovation, Samsung planned to demonstrate the potential and uses of the virtual reality technology and show everyone how this new technology can address real challenges that people face every day.
