Samsung Electronics has introduced the new LM301A, a flip chip-based mid-power LED package that can operate at anywhere from 0.2 watts to 1 watt and provides a wide range of current options to users which basically results in improved light efficacy.
This new package by Samsung was introduced at a press conference in conjunction with LIGHTFAIR International 2015 which is being held in New York from May 5th to 7th.
The new LM301A comes in a 3.0 mm by 3.0 mm form factor that is increasingly popular in LED lighting applications. Apart from this the lower and wider current alternatives of the new LM301A are a result of Samsung’s new flip chip technology.
This technology basically allows the LED chip to have the shortest distance from the junction to the base of a package and eliminates the need for metal wire bonding in the packaging process.
The executive vice president of LED lighting business team, Samsung Electronics, Dr. Jacob Tarn stated that the new LM301A has been designed with advanced flip chip technology and it overcomes what had been significant performance and power limitations of conventional mid-power lighting LED packages.
Dr. Jacob further stated that the company will continue to work on this new technology and will strengthen its technology leadership in the market by introducing highly competitive next generation LED products. These products he stated will be based on the company’s most innovative, market proven LED technologies.
The LM301A and its light efficacy levels make this new package well suited for diverse lighting applications which range from ambient to high intensity lighting which includes high bays and outdoor lighting.
Apart from this the performance and the cost competitiveness of this new Samsung mid power package should also be liked by lighting fixture manufacturers.
Moreover the LM301A has been equipped with Epoxy Mold Compound (EMC) packaging which makes it much more reliable and extends its lifespan. This new packaging by Samsung when compared to other LED packaging offers more protection against heat and UV rays.
