Samsung might be the alter ego of Apple. whatever Apple does, Samsung creates its own version of it. It might be crude to say that Samsung bluntly copies Apple. that is not the case in reality. The latest rumours indicate that Samsung is building its own version of Apple’s live photos called as “vivid photos”.
Samsung had something called as “Sound and Shot” all the way back in 2013. It was introduced in the galaxy s4 where series of photos and sounds were combined to make a form of Gif that looked great. The problem was that it wasn’t a finished product and was subsequently neglected.
Now with the success of the live photos, Samsung is taking another swing at it with vivid photos. What these do is that when you snap a picture, your phone records a second before and a second after the picture was taken. The result is an animated picture that looks great and captures important moments beautifully.
Apple usually lead the innovation in the mobile space be it the fingerprint reader or the 64-bit architecture in mobile chips. This usually allows the rest of the industry to take those features that Apple introduced and improved it for other operating system like the android.
Take for example the Apple pay mobile payment system. Apple ignited the mobile payment service but it needs special hardware to make the payment. Samsung took this feature and innovated in such a way that it works with the existing hardware leaving Apple in the dust.
An insider also revealed that Samsung is set to borrow another important feature from the iPhone, the 3d-touch. Samsung will also make this feature available in the galaxy s7 and will tweak it to suit touchwiz better.
Get ready for the live photos and 3d touch in the upcoming galaxy s7. I am curious how Samsung would make these iOS features work in android space.
