In April it was brought to everyone’s attention that Samsung will not be relying on stock ARM cores to keep up with mobile processor evolution. That is why the Korean giant is now designing custom CPU cores which have been codenamed Mongoose which basically employs ARMv8 architecture.

Plus rumors are that the silicon is being worked on since 2011 and is currently deep in testing. Moreover the cores maximum clock speed is 2.3 GHz and preliminary benchmark result showed 45 percent better single core performance than the Exynos 7420 in the Galaxy S6.

So this then means that the new CPU could be able to bring the typical doubling of performance over a year which has become the norm in mobile application processors.
Now the new thing that we learnt today is that the latest development tools for ARM cores which also include support for the ARM Cortex cores will come along with the support for a certain Samsung Exynos M1 core.

The Exynos M1 core is currently under the codename of Mongoose and this information also confirms that Samsung is hard at work at new CPU cores for its new smart products.

The Exynos 7420 powers the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and now Samsung is developing custom processing technology for its new flagship mobile products. The mass production of the chip would being within 9 to 12 months from now and this means that Samsung is going to use the chip in its Galaxy S7.

Apart from this it is also being said that the Exynos M1 will be featuring a Heterogeneous System Architecture which will employ GPU stream processors for general purpose processing.
