Samsung is the top brand when it comes to smartphone shipments but there is stiff competition from Apple in higher segments and from Chinese manufactures Lenovo and Huawei in lower price range.
Samsung managed to ship 89 million units compared to Apple’s 43.7 million units in the first quarter of 2014. Despite that Samsung’s market share slipped to 31.2% from 32.4% a year earlier.
On Tuesday, as it reported quarterly earnings, Samsung said its profit margin on smartphones was unchanged from a year earlier at 19.8%. But analysts say that margin could face pressure in future quarters as competition intensifies.
