Galaxy S6 to receive marshmallow soon, S4 left in the dust

heres-what-google-inc-android-marshmallow-will-bring-to-samsung-devicesSamsung has reportedly completed the marshmallow update for the galaxy s6 and will release it to the beta testers soon before updating the phone of the common user. This comes as a surprise as Samsung has been named as notoriously slow in updating its phones to newer version android OS. Forget the mid-ranged and low end phone, even the high end phones take at least 6 months to get the next major version of android.

While this may be true, what is disappointing is that the galaxy s4 will not get the marshmallow update as previously expected. This is due to the reason that the phone is beyond the 2-year upgrade cycle. While still a very capable phone, the s4 user have to depend on the custom rom development community to get the latest build of the android.

But officially, the s4 will be locked on android 5.1.1 forever.

Samsung has been under pressure for its late updates and in risk of losing consumers to HTC or LG who typically update their phones within a month of the availability of the upgrade. Samsung is hell bent on changing that and has multiple teams working on the upgrade firmware of several devices. The list includes Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Tab S2.

If your device is not in the list and not yet 2-year-old since the date of release, you can still expect an update though it isn’t mandatory to get it.
