Monthly security updates coming up for US unlocked phonesThe Korean Giant company is finally offering on the users who unlocked their smartphones in the US, something that they promised 18 months ago. They will begin to roll out a monthly security updates for those devices very soon. From the devices listed as an example there are the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

Back in summer 2015, Google and its third-party smartphones wanted to shut down Stagerfight on Android over patches. Since then, Samsung promised a new program that will push out the Android security updates once a month, to face these issues faster.

Even though the company released many updates for its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the unlocked versions of these devices are still waiting to get those. Even more, the devices are still using the December 2016 security patches for Android. The other version of the devices already got many security patches till now, including the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat.

ZDNet reported that after they were contracted by a reader, they can confirm that Samsung will finally commit to release security updates for their unlocked devices. The release date is still set on “soon”. Previously, those devices were receiving security updates only on every quarter each in the US. Said that there were various circumstances, Samsung now said that they’ve resolved the challenges, and will start offering monthly updates to those devices.

This can mean that the owners of the unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will soon receive the Android 7.0 Nougat. They will also be able to keep their phones updated with regular monthly security patches afterwards.

It is still not known what were those “various circumstances” that Samsung weren’t able to recover from them for some period. We’re also waiting for an official report from Samsung, with an explanation of the whole story.
